Let’s talk color combinations, known in the color vocabulary as color harmony. Have you ever noticed how an aged US flag feels a little more complete when the white is no longer a crisp new white? When the white yellows you have what is closer to a triadic color harmony. It is not a perfect harmony for our blue has a little red in it and is actually closer to blue violet with some flags. So if the white ages more and achieves a tiny bit of very pale gold then you have red in all hues and achieve harmony. Red and blue do not make a good combination unless both have red in them or you imply red orange or even pink. For now, they have red in common. White is considered a neutral. To have a hue in common one the blue-violet and the red would have to add a tiny bit of red in the white. So with age our US flag seems more human especially when you add the red which is blood related to humanity.

continued cheery discoveries,
Syl
