Advice to the Graduating Class:

Don’t get distracted by technology. Technology is the paintbrush, what you’re after is the painting. Find great ideas and use the right tools to tell the story that will make consumers feel something about your brand.

Advice to the Incoming Class:

You are about to embark on a career for which there is no playbook. You’re not going to Circus to learn how to make great ads. You’re going to Circus to learn how to be brave, confident and how to constantly experiment. Learn that and the result will be great ads.

What do you wish you knew in school?:

You are going to fail 1000 times for every 1 success. Be prolific. Fail quickly. Be resilient.

What does the Circus mean to you?:

Circus is to advertising as Second City was to Saturday Night Live.

Best Advice You’ve Ever Been Given:

Keep your head down and just focus on making great work. The rest will sort itself out.

Favorite project you’ve worked on:

My favorite project is usually the one I’m currently working on. Then it ends and all I can see are the flaws.
